Ghana international Inaki Williams has moved into the top five for most appearances in Athletic Bilbao’s history after scoring in the club’s 1-1 draw with Elche in La Liga.
Williams reached the milestone during Saturday’s match at San Mames, making his 515th competitive appearance for the Spanish club.
The 32-year-old marked the achievement in memorable fashion by scoring Athletic Bilbao’s equaliser to help the team secure a point on home soil.
His 515th appearance moved him beyond former Athletic star Joseba Etxeberria, who featured 514 times for the Basque outfit.
Williams now sits fifth on the club’s all-time appearance chart. Only Txetxu Rojo, Iker Muniain, Oscar de Marcos and legendary goalkeeper Jose Angel Iribar have made more appearances for Athletic Bilbao.
Iribar leads the list with 614 matches, followed by de Marcos with 573, Muniain with 560 and Rojo with 541.
Williams has spent his entire senior club career with Athletic Bilbao and has established himself as one of the most important players of his generation at the club.
He has scored 116 goals and provided 74 assists across his appearances, while also helping Athletic win the Copa del Rey and two Spanish Super Cups.
His latest milestone came just a day after he announced his retirement from international football with Ghana.
Williams confirmed his decision on Friday, bringing an end to his Black Stars career after making 28 appearances for the country.
The forward scored two goals for Ghana after making his international debut and represented the country at major international competitions.
Despite ending his international career, Williams said Ghana would continue to hold a special place in his heart and that he would remain a supporter of the Black Stars.
His decision to retire from international football came shortly before he produced another memorable performance for his boyhood club, combining a historic appearance with a crucial goal in the draw against Elche.
