Algerian midfielder Ismael Bennacer takes fans through his history and acknowledges that sometimes he is still surprised by the magic of his career path.
He said, ‘I look at the logo on the shirt and think, I do play for Milan…’
The 2019 AFCON best player sat with the official Milan social media channels to talk about his life growing up with Algerian and Moroccan parents in Arles, France.
He talked about his start in football and making his way through the Arsenal academy, Empoli and in 2019 joining the Rossoneri in a deal worth €17.2m.
Even at the age of 26, recovering from six months out with a serious knee ligament injury, Bennacer takes absolutely nothing for granted and remains astonished by his situation.
“Sometimes when I am on the training ground, I will look at the logo on the shirt and think, I do play for Milan… Then I think of where I was before, what I achieved and where I came from.
“When you look back at these things, it always gives you the desire to do even more. I am truly proud to be at this club and will give 100 per cent every day as long as I am here.”
Ishmael Bennacer made his return on 2 December 2023 in Milan’s 3-1 win over Frosinone in Serie A as a substitute in the 79th minute after being out since May 2023 with a knee injury.
It is not clear whether Djamel Belmadi will add him to Algerian 2023 AFCON squad in January.
