Ghana’s Black Stars forward Joseph Paintsil’s produced a stellar performance in the Belgium Cup and registered an assist in his team’s elimination from the competition.
The Ghanaian forward and his KRC Genk team suffered a disappointing exit from the Belgian Cup, following a challenging Round of 16 clash against Oostende on Wednesday, December 6.
Despite the team’s efforts, Oostende managed to break the deadlock in the 65th minute, with a well-taken goal from Thomas Basila, putting them in the lead.
Undeterred, KRC Genk fought back, and just four minutes later, Ghanaian forward Joseph Paintsil made a significant contribution, providing an assist for Anouar Ait El Hadj who found the net, leveling the score and reigniting hopes for a positive result.
The intense battle on the pitch extended into full time, as neither side could break the deadlock, requiring the match to proceed to extra time in search of a winner.
However, fortune did not favor KRC Genk during the additional periods, as Oostende displayed resolute determination, finding the back of the net twice through Robbie D’Haese and Luis Hartwig, cementing their lead and ultimately securing the victory.
Despite their best efforts, KRC Genk, including Joseph Paintsil, were unable to overcome the resilient performance of Oostende, resulting in their departure from this season’s Belgian Cup, marking the end of their campaign in the competition.
