The Super Eagles were eliminated by rivals Ghana in a World Cup qualifier double-header in March after failing to beat their West African counterparts at the national stadium in Abuja.
Nigeria only managed a one-all draw in the second leg at a packed MKO Stadium following a goalless draw in Kumasi which handed the Black Stars the World Cup ticket via the away goal rule.
Musa, who is the leader of the team revealed in an interview with Arise TV that the World Cup fiasco was a huge disappointment for him.
“It was a very big disappointment for me because the World Cup is one of the best tournaments that as a player you want to go there,” the Super Eagles captain told Arise TV.
The 29-year-old added that he went three days without eating after he couldn’t lead the team for their seventh appearance at the World Cup finals.
“At the end of that game, I spent more than three days without eating. Even my wife was worried,” he said.
The ex-Leicester City forward has featured at two World Cup finals, in 2014 and 2018.
Musa became the first Super Eagles player to score a brace at the World Cup finals after scoring twice in Nigeria’s 3-2 loss to Argentina in the group stages of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
He is also the only Nigerian player to score in two different World Cups after he scored twice against Iceland at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
