Bibiani Goldstars coach Michael Osei acknowledged that his team faced a tactically disciplined opponent and had to settle for a 2-2 draw at home.
Despite initially taking a two-goal lead, Goldstars ended with a draw against newly promoted side Heart of Lions, who, while remaining unbeaten, are still in search of their first win in the Ghana Premier League.
Goldstars took the lead with a goal from Alex Aso just before half-time. Midfielder Appiah McCarthy then doubled the host’s advantage in the 54th minute. However, Heart of Lions made a remarkable comeback to secure a valuable point in their away fixture.
Mustapha Yakubu narrowed the deficit for the visitors shortly after, and skipper Ebenezer Abban found the net on 72 minutes to restore parity for the Lions, marking their fifth drawn game of the campaign.
After the game, Osei credited their opponents for their disciplined tactics, saying, “It was a very difficult game. I will credit our opponent because they were tactically disciplined. It was a game that we wanted to win at all costs; we got the first two goals. However, defensively and tactically, we couldn’t defend well, and then they were able to equalize. It’s very unfortunate, but we will go back to the drawing board and ensure we improve our performance in subsequent games.”
Looking ahead, Goldstars will host Hearts of Oak on Saturday, while Heart of Lions will face Karela United on Sunday.
