Ghana international Jordan Ayew has paid a heartfelt tribute to his father, Abedi Pele, acknowledging the immense influence the football legend has had on his career and that of his siblings.
The Crystal Palace forward, who has made over 300 appearances in the English Premier League, admitted that following in the footsteps of a football icon like Abedi Pele has not been without its challenges, especially with the weight of expectations both in Ghana and abroad.
“It’s not easy to come after your father in the sense of the expectations being so high back home and even in Europe,” Ayew said.
Despite the pressure, Ayew believes he and his elder brother, Andre Ayew, have remained focused on their personal development and forged their own paths in professional football. Both brothers have represented Ghana at multiple international tournaments and shared club stints at Olympique Marseille during the early stages of their careers.
Jordan also expressed deep appreciation for the unwavering support of his parents throughout his journey.
“My dad has done a lot, not only for me but for the entire family,” he said. “There’s still more to come from us, and hopefully we can give them more moments to enjoy.”
As the current captain of the Black Stars, Jordan Ayew carries forward a proud family tradition. His father, Abedi Pele, is widely regarded as one of the greatest African players of all time, and both Jordan and Andre have worked to honor that legacy while carving out their own reputations on the global stage.
