SC Freiburg head coach Julian Schuster has offered an encouraging update on Ghana international Daniel-Kofi Kyereh, who has endured nearly two years on the sidelines due to a serious knee injury.
Kyereh, who has been battling with fitness since suffering an ACL injury in early 2023, has yet to return to competitive action.
His extended absence has been a major setback for both club and country, as he was a key figure in Freiburg’s attacking setup and a regular in the Black Stars squad before the injury.
Speaking to the media, Schuster acknowledged the emotional and physical toll the injury has taken on the 28-year-old playmaker but highlighted recent positive developments in his recovery.
“Daniel-Kofi Kyereh has been suffering for a long time. Two years is a really long time,” Schuster said. “Nevertheless, there have been positive moments recently. He’s mostly been playing individually. Nevertheless, he’s already participated in some of our training sessions at the start. These are moments that make us feel positive.”
While Kyereh is still not fully integrated into full team training, his gradual progress offers hope of a potential comeback in the near future. His return would be a significant boost for Freiburg as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season, and for Ghana, who continue to monitor his rehabilitation closely.
