Nora Hauptle, the coach of Ghana’s female senior national team, the Black Queens, has shared insights into her coaching experience with the team.
Hauptle, a Swiss trainer, guided Ghana back to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations following an impressive performance during the qualifiers, where the team suffered only one defeat.
Although the Black Queens came close to progressing to the final round of Olympic Games qualifiers, a late goal from Babara Banda dashed their hopes.
Despite this setback, Hauptle expressed pride in her journey with the Black Queens as she prepares the team for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco later this year.
“I knew when I jumped in there that I would have the resilience to survive [and] I would learn a lot about myself,” she shared in an interview with the BBC. “For me, the interest behind it maybe sounds ridiculous for others but I learned the most in this whole journey about myself.”
Taking over as coach after the team’s absence from the last two editions of the WAFCON, Hauptle aims to guide the Black Queens to make a significant impact at the continental level as Ghana pursues its first-ever women’s title.
