Ivory Coast 70-year-old French manager Jean Louis Gasset has praised Ivorians for the wonderful support they gave to the team during the opening game against Guinea Bissau in which the Elephants triumphed 2-0.
“One match is done and dusted. The fans were amazing and supported us from the beginning to the end. We hope to see this in all our games”, pleaded Gasset.
The French tactician revealed what he said to his players before the opening game against Guinea-Bissau.
“I told my players to play their hearts out and make sure we win”, added Jean-Louis Gasset.
Ivory Coast had a good start to the game against Guinea Bissau as Seko Fofana opened the scoring in the 4th minute with a wonderful strike. Guinea Bissau came strongly in the game and Ivory Coast looked a bit disorganised at some point but Jean-Phillipe Krasso’s superb strike ensured the three points for the host.
“We need to improve in certain areas certainly but tonight is just about the win”, Gasset added. The Elephants certainly need to improve in many areas to be able to reach the last four as it will be a difficult competition considering the teams and their form.
