Ghanaian defender Jerome Opoku played a pivotal role in Istanbul Basaksehir’s 4-2 triumph over Alanyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday, helping his team secure a resounding victory on home turf.
The 25-year-old centre-back lasted the entire duration of the match, providing an assist to help his team overcome their opponents.
The game got off to a strong start for Istanbul Basaksehir, with Krzysztof Piatek scoring the opening goal in the 16th minute. Alanyaspor responded with an equalizer in the 26th minute, courtesy of Sergio Cordova, before Jure Balkovec extended their lead in the 35th minute.
However, after the halftime break, Opoku set up Joao Figueiredo to restore parity in the 54th minute mark. The Ghanaian international’s assist proved to be a turning point in the game, as Istanbul Basaksehir went on to score two late goals through Deniz Türüc and Serdar Gürler, securing a 4-2 victory.
Opoku has featured in all two games for Istanbul Basaksehir this season, following his permanent move to the Turkish club this summer after an impressive loan spell.
