FC Basel defender Jonas Adjetey Adjei has been called up to replace the injured Alexander Djiku in Ghana’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Djiku suffered a thigh injury during a league match for Fenerbahce on Friday, leading coach Otto Addo to make the change.
Adjetey, 20, is set to join the Black Stars for the first time as they gear up for important qualifiers against Angola and Niger. The young defender has been in impressive form in the Swiss Super League, having played in all six of FC Basel’s matches this season.
Adjetey’s football journey began at Teshie Football Academy, followed by stints at Accra Great Olympics and Berekum Chelsea before moving to FC Basel.
The talented defender will report to the Black Stars’ camp on Monday to start preparations. Ghana will host Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on September 5 and then travel to Berkane, Morocco, to face Niger on September 9.
