Ghana captain Jordan Ayew has expressed his excitement after completing his move to Championship side Sheffield United, insisting he is ready to play his part in helping the Blades enjoy a successful campaign.
The 34-year-old joined Chris Wilder’s side on a one-year contract after arriving as a free agent following the expiration of his deal with Leicester City. Sheffield United moved swiftly to secure the experienced forward, who brings a wealth of Premier League and international experience to Bramall Lane.
Speaking after the announcement, Ayew thanked manager Chris Wilder and everyone at the club for their efforts in making the transfer happen quickly.
“I’m really, really pleased to be here. The manager and the club made a great effort to get me here as quick as possible, so I want to thank everyone for their support and for them to bring me over to the Blades and hopefully we’ll have a great season.”
The Ghana international also revealed that Sheffield United already reminds him of his time at Crystal Palace, a club where he spent several successful years in the Premier League.
“It reminds me a bit of where I was a few years ago, and that was obviously Palace, so a bit similar. I really like it, and I’m really looking forward to the season and getting to know more about the club as well.”
Ayew believes the familiar atmosphere at Bramall Lane will help him settle quickly as he prepares for the new Championship season. His experience, leadership and versatility are expected to provide a major boost to Chris Wilder’s squad as Sheffield United aim to challenge for promotion back to the Premier League.
Having earned over 100 caps for Ghana and enjoyed an accomplished career in England with clubs including Aston Villa, Swansea City, Crystal Palace and Leicester City, Ayew now begins a fresh chapter with the Blades, determined to make an immediate impact both on and off the pitch.
