Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew has shed light on his infrequent smiles, emphasizing that it’s a deliberate approach to maintain focus during football matches.
The 31-year-old, known for rarely displaying a smile on or off the pitch, clarified that his serious expression is not a sign of anger or dissatisfaction.
In an interview with the Crystal Palace media team, Ayew acknowledged the feedback from family members encouraging him to enjoy life more.
He explained that while he’s working on incorporating more smiles, the intensity of being on the pitch makes it challenging, stating, “is something I am trying to work on. My mum and my aunties, it’s something that they complain about; cheer up, enjoy life, you are doing a wonderful job.
“Well, obviously I am on the pitch. I can’t really smile when I am on the pitch because I am working. It is hard for me to smile.
“It is something that I am really working on, it does not mean that I am not happy or I am angry with someone. It is just my way of focusing for the game and when I am into the game there’s nothing else I am thinking about.”
