Ghanaian forward Joseph Paintsil played a crucial role in LA Galaxy’s 1-0 win over Seattle Sounders, securing their place in the 2024 MLS Cup final. The victory earned Galaxy the MLS Western Conference title, and they will now face Eastern Conference champions New York Red Bulls in the final on December 7, 2024, in Los Angeles.
Paintsil, who joined Galaxy this season from Belgian club Genk, has been impressive throughout the campaign, contributing 10 goals and seven assists in 29 appearances. His strong playoff performance added three goals and one assist, highlighting his importance to the team. Despite facing a tough match against Seattle, where he managed just one successful dribble and an 88% passing accuracy without registering a shot on target, Paintsil’s presence was key in the buildup to the game’s only goal.
The match saw his teammate, Dejan Joveljic, step up in the 86th minute to score the match-winner. With the win, Galaxy now look ahead to the MLS Cup final, where they will aim to secure their sixth MLS Cup title on home turf.
For Paintsil, a win in the final would make him the third Ghanaian player, alongside Jonathan Mensah and Harrison Afful, to lift the MLS Cup trophy, adding another prestigious achievement to his career.
