Ghanaian defender Alidu Seidu recently unveiled the factors that influenced his decision to join Stade Rennais, citing his close relationship with former club-mate Kamaldeen Sulemana.
Sulemana, now with Southampton, previously played for Stade Rennais from 2021 to 2023, amassing 34 league appearances and scoring five goals before making a move to a Championship side in January.
In a post-announcement interview, Seidu shed light on the camaraderie he shares with players at the club, particularly highlighting his strong bond with Kamaldeen Sulemana and Christopher Wooh. He expressed confidence that these relationships would positively impact the team dynamics within the dressing room.
The 23-year-old versatile defender made the transition from fellow French top-flight side Clermont Foot, with the deal reportedly amounting to €11 million. Following his return from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where his playing time was limited, Seidu successfully underwent mandatory medical checks.
Seidu committed to a four-year contract, solidifying his association with Stade Rennais until 2028. Speaking about the move, he conveyed his excitement about joining the club, acknowledging its stature and expressing gratitude for the warm welcome he received at his previous club, Clermont Foot. Reflecting on his time with Clermont, Seidu described it as a significant period where he developed personally and felt like part of a family.
As Seidu embarks on this new chapter, he emphasized his competitive nature, stating that he is a player who dislikes losing and always strives to give his best for his colleagues. He sees this move to Stade Rennais as a continuation of his football journey, with a determination to contribute to the team’s success.
The versatile defender now anticipates integrating into the Stade Rennais squad, believing that the familiarity with players like Sulemana and Wooh will facilitate a smooth transition. With his commitment to progress and a strong bond with fellow players, Seidu is poised to make a positive impact on the team’s performance and contribute to their objectives in the seasons ahead.
