Ghanaian international Kamaldeen Sulemana is on the verge of joining Italian Serie A side Atalanta, with his medical examinations currently in progress.
The high-speed winger is set to complete a transfer from English side Southampton after both clubs reached an agreement. Atalanta will pay an initial fee of €17.5 million, with an additional €4 million in performance-based bonuses. As part of the deal, Southampton have secured a 15% sell-on clause for any future sale of the player.
Upon successful completion of his medicals, Sulemana is expected to sign a four-year contract with Atalanta, which includes an option to extend for a fifth season.
The 22-year-old began his European career with FC Nordsjælland before impressing in Ligue 1 with Stade Rennais. He moved to Southampton in January 2023 for a club-record fee and featured 26 times in the 2023/24 season, scoring one goal.
Though his time in England was marked by a modest goal return, Sulemana’s raw pace, dribbling skill, and creativity made him a standout, attracting strong interest from Atalanta’s recruitment team.
A move to Italy will mark Sulemana’s first venture into Serie A, offering a new challenge and the opportunity to grow under manager Gian Piero Gasperini.
Southampton, meanwhile, endured a dismal campaign, finishing last in the Premier League with just 12 points across the season.
Sulemana’s move is seen as a fresh start for both the player and the club as they look to rebuild in different directions.
