Ghana winger Kamaldeen Sulemana picked up an injury during Atalanta’s emphatic 4–0 win over Genoa in the Coppa Italia Round of 16 on Wednesday night.
The 23-year-old, who joined Atalanta in the summer, was forced off in the 21st minute after sustaining what is suspected to be a muscle strain in his right adductor. He is expected to undergo scans to determine the severity of the injury.
Despite his early exit, Atalanta dominated the match at the New Balance Arena. Berat Djimsiti opened the scoring in the 19th minute before Marten de Roon doubled the lead shortly after the break. Mario Pasalic and Honest Ahanor added late goals to seal the team’s place in the quarterfinals.
Kamaldeen has so far made 15 appearances for Atalanta across competitions, scoring twice and providing one assist. The club is hopeful he will return soon as they continue their campaign on multiple fronts.
