Ghana’s Kamaldeen Sulemana’s Southampton FC have secured a playoffs final against Leeds United FC for a place in the 2024-25 English Premier League campaign after beating West Bromich Albion.

Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana watched from the bench, while English-born Ghanaian attacker Brandon Thomas-Asante entered the fray for West Brom in the 64th minute, replacing Jed Wallace.

The first leg of the semi-final ended in a draw, but Southampton dominated from the start in the return leg. Their persistence paid off early in the second half when Will Smallbone capitalized on a Gray Diangana error, scoring four minutes after the break.

Southampton continued their relentless attack, with Adam Armstrong at the forefront. In the 78th minute, Armstrong’s shot found its way past Alex Palmer through Darnell Furlong’s legs, extending the lead. Armstrong then sealed the win in the 86th minute by converting a penalty after Tom Fellows fouled Ryan Manning in the box. Despite Cedric Kipre’s header in the 90+7 minute, West Brom could only manage a consolation goal.

Kamaldeen Sulemana, 22, has been a key player for Southampton this season, making 25 appearances and providing three assists. His potential involvement in the final against Leeds United could be crucial for the Saints’ promotion hopes.
