Former Asante Kotoko forward Abdul Fatawu Safiu has offered words of encouragement to Black Stars defender Baba Rahman, urging him to maintain his focus and not be swayed by the criticisms from Ghanaians.
Baba Rahman played until the 69th minute before being substituted by Gideon Mensah in Ghana’s 2-1 victory over the Central African Republic during the final Group E match of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers, which took place on Thursday, September 8 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
With high expectations surrounding his performance, especially due to his good form with Greek side PAOK, Baba Rahman was handed a starting role by Coach Chris Hughton in Thursday’s game.
However, the former Chelsea player became the center of attention as he faced jeers and criticism from many football fans for his performance.
While some continued to mock him for his subpar display in the game, others sympathized with him, encouraging him not to be disheartened but to maintain his confidence and continue giving his best for Ghana.
In a tweet discovered by GhanaWeb, Fatawu Safiu, who also had an appearance for the Black Stars in 2019 under former coach James Kwasi Appiah, tweeted, “Keep your head up, bro.”
As the Black Stars prepare to face Liberia in a friendly match at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, September 12, it remains uncertain whether Rahman will retain his place or if Gideon Mensah will take his position.
