Accra Hearts of Oak defender Kelvin Osei Asibey believes the club can mount a serious Ghana Premier League title challenge next season if they strengthen their attacking department.
The centre-back says Hearts of Oak already boast one of the strongest defensive setups in the league, but improving their goal-scoring ability will be key to competing with top sides such as Medeama SC and Bibiani Gold Stars FC.
Speaking after the Phobians’ goalless draw against Aduana Stars on Sunday, Osei Asibey admitted the team’s struggles in front of goal have affected their campaign.“We will work on our attack mostly because, as everybody knows, we are having the best defense this season.
So going into next season, I think maybe they will do some adjustments to boost the team for the team to do things right next season,” he said.Hearts of Oak have remained among the top teams in the league largely due to their defensive discipline, despite their attacking inconsistencies throughout the season.
The Accra-based side currently occupies third position on the Ghana Premier League table after 32 matches and continues to rank among the division’s best defensive teams. However, the Phobians are expected to end the season without a trophy after falling short in the title race.
