Ghanaian defender Kingsley Schindler will battle for regional glory after Buriram United secured a place in the final of the 2025/26 ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup, where they will face Malaysian giants Selangor FC.
The highly anticipated final will be played over two legs, with the opening encounter scheduled for May 20 at Petaling Jaya Stadium in Malaysia. The return leg will take place a week later on May 27 at Buriram Stadium in Thailand.
Buriram United reached the final after overcoming Johor Darul Ta’zim in a dramatic semi-final tie. Holding a 3-1 advantage from the first leg, the Thai side suffered a 2-1 defeat in the return fixture as JDT fought back strongly to level the aggregate score.
Bergson da Silva opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Marcos Guilherme added a second goal to force extra time. However, Schindler emerged as the hero for Buriram, scoring a crucial winner in the 98th minute to hand his side a 4-3 aggregate victory.
The tense contest also saw Buriram finish with nine men after late red cards for Guilherme Bissoli and Goran Čaušić, but they managed to hold on and seal qualification.
Selangor FC, meanwhile, booked their place in the final with an impressive 4-1 aggregate triumph over Vietnamese side Nam Định. The Malaysian club sealed the victory with a comfortable 2-0 win in the second leg.
The final is expected to deliver an exciting battle between two of Southeast Asia’s strongest clubs, with Schindler aiming to help Buriram United lift the regional crown.
