The conclusion of the 2022/23 BetPawa Premier League season marks the unfortunate relegation of King Faisal, Kotoku Royals, and Tamale City FC from the top flight.
These three teams finished at the bottom of the table, sealing their fate in Ghana’s second division.
On the penultimate matchday, six teams were locked in a battle to avoid relegation, but King Faisal, Kotoku Royals, and Tamale City FC were unable to escape the drop.
Kotoku Royals, who earned promotion to the Premier League last season, encountered numerous challenges throughout the campaign. Their inability to establish a home stadium forced them to utilize the Cape Coast Stadium, which affected their performances. Despite temporary usage of the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu, they concluded the season in last place with 26 points from 34 games. Their final match ended in a 3-2 defeat against Karela United.
Tamale City, another team new to the Premier League, had a dismal season culminating in relegation on the final day after a 3-0 loss to champions Medeama. They will now compete in the Division One League alongside the Royals and King Faisal.
King Faisal displayed resilience until the very end, securing a 1-0 victory over RTU on the final day. However, their accumulated 42 points fell short of ensuring their survival.
While the outcome is disappointing for these teams, they will now shift their focus to regrouping and working towards reclaiming their positions in the top-flight. King Faisal, Kotoku Royals, and Tamale City FC will evaluate their performances, identify areas for improvement, and strive to make a comeback in future seasons.
