Medeama SC has officially been crowned champions of Ghana and will represent the country in the upcoming CAF Champions League.
The Yellow and Mauves secured their maiden Ghana Premier League title by defeating Tamale City at Akoon Park on Sunday.
This league triumph not only ends a 46-year trophy drought for the two-time FA Cup winners but also brings a momentous occasion for the Western Region.
The last time a team from the Western Region emerged victorious in the Ghana Premier League was in 1977 when Sekondi Hasaacas claimed the title.
Medeama only needed a draw to clinch the championship, but they achieved an emphatic 3-0 victory over Tamale City, which also resulted in Tamale City’s relegation.
As the newly crowned champions, the Tarkwa-based club will represent Ghana in the CAF Champions League, provided they fulfill the requirements set by CAF.
Medeama’s last foray into continental competition was in 2015 when they participated in the CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
