Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has openly revealed the unwavering support of his family regarding his decision to commit to England over Ghana’s national team, the Black Stars.

Though born to Ghanaian parents in Stockport, England, Mainoo had the choice to represent the Black Stars on the international stage but ultimately decided otherwise.

At just 19 years old, Mainoo debuted for the English squad earlier this year, as he starred in a friendly match against Brazil in March.

With a track record of representing England across various youth categories, the youngster now stands on the brink of potentially featuring in this year’s European Championships.

“Maybe distant family when I’m in Ghana give me a bit for it. But, no, they all support me in my decision,” he said when talking about his decision to represent the Three Lions.

Mainoo was named in Gareth Southgate’s preliminary squad for the Euro 2024 to be staged in Germany.
