Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has assured the public that the budget for the Black Stars’ upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar will be provided.
With Matchday 5 and 6 approaching, many expected the minister to disclose the financial details, especially after President John Mahama emphasized in his State of the Nation Address that national team budgets should be made public.
However, in an interview, the Buem constituency MP explained why the figures had not yet been released, arguing that doing so before the matches could negatively impact the team.
“People were asking me to disclose the budget for the games, but I kept asking myself what will the budget do for the team ahead of the games?
“Sometimes, some situations create distraction for the team, so we should weigh every situation before making a decision.”
Despite the initial delay, Adams reassured Ghanaians that transparency remains a priority.
“The budget for the team will be made available. There is nothing to hide from the public, but we must know it is expensive to take care of the national team because most of the players are coming from Europe. But apart from that, everything will be made available.”
The Black Stars are gearing up for crucial fixtures as they aim to strengthen their chances of securing a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
