Asante Kotoko CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah has revealed that a cobra bit him during his younger days and at some point was pronounced dead.
Amponsah has enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame, now the CEO of one of Ghana’s most influential clubs, Asante Kotoko, helping them to a league title during the 2021/22 season.
But, this would not have been possible because he narrowly escaped death at a younger age.
“My dad and mum had traveled so I was playing football. We didn’t have tap in my home so when my dad came, he suggested I have a shower somewhere else,” he stated on the Dentaa show.
“So I went to a neighbour’s house. While we were fetching the water, a frog passed by and the boy I was with ran away. Before I turned, a big black cobra had bitten me. I was rushed to Tema General Hospital. They said they needed an anti-snake bite. My dad and uncle went to town, got one that had expired for three months. I was injected with it. At some point I was pronounced dead,” he added.
“I spent three months, three weeks at the hospital, my leg was rotten and at a point, they were going to amputate my leg but a senior doctor came in and they opted for skin grafting so they had to cut a bit of my skin from my thigh to fix it and eventually it was fixed,” he concluded.
His club, Kotoko, have been camping in Sudan to prepare for the new season.
