Executive Chairman of Asante Kotoko, James Osei Brown, has outlined the reasoning behind the club’s decision to appoint former Netherlands international goalkeeper Stanley Menzo as Director of Football.

The club officially confirmed Menzo’s arrival on Monday, handing him responsibility for overseeing Kotoko’s overall football structure as part of their long-term rebuilding project.

According to Osei Brown, Menzo was selected because of his rare blend of elite playing experience, leadership qualities, and international football insight.

“Stanley Menzo brings a rare combination of elite playing experience, proven leadership and genuine global perspective,” he said.

The Kotoko chairman stressed that Menzo’s football philosophy fits perfectly with the club’s ambition to modernise its structure and strengthen its technical foundation.

“His footballing philosophy aligns with the standards and ambitions of this great institution, and we are confident that his expertise will help us build a sustainable, winning structure of which our supporters can be proud.”

Menzo enjoyed a highly successful career with Ajax and the Netherlands national team before transitioning into coaching and football management across Europe, Africa, and Asia.

In his new role, he is expected to take charge of key areas such as technical planning, recruitment, youth development, and ensuring smooth alignment between the academy and the senior team.

Osei Brown expressed excitement about the appointment, adding:

“We are thrilled to welcome him to the club.”

The move is part of Kotoko’s broader strategy to rebuild the team into a more competitive force domestically and on the continental stage as they aim to return to winning major trophies.
