Asante Kotoko coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum has drawn comparisons between striker Kwame Opoku and former Kotoko star Franck Mbella, praising Opoku’s goal-scoring instincts after his standout performance in their 4-1 victory over Vision FC on Sunday.
Mbella, a prolific scorer during the 2021/22 season, netted an impressive 21 goals in 30 Ghana Premier League matches, cementing his reputation as a clinical finisher. Opoku, who scored seven goals in 16 matches during his first stint with Kotoko before a move to USM Alger, has returned for a second spell and is already making his mark.
“He is a photocopy of him, he’s a replica of him, I mean in terms of goal scoring,” Ogum remarked, comparing Opoku’s instincts in front of goal to Mbella’s. “Mbella is a killer. Opoku too has those instincts; he knows where he is in front of goal, so to me, he is a photocopy of Mbella.”
Opoku’s brace against Vision FC not only extended Kotoko’s unbeaten run to five games but also lifted the team to third place on the league table, just two points shy of the leaders. His form has reignited hopes of a strong title push for the Porcupine Warriors.
