Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has provided an injury update on forward Albert Amoah, who was sidelined during Kotoko’s 1-0 defeat to Heart of Lions on Sunday.
The match, held at Obuasi as part of the Ghana Premier League’s ninth matchday, saw the Porcupine Warriors suffer their second consecutive loss, ending their unbeaten home record. A lone strike from Kwadwo Obeng Jnr was enough for Heart of Lions to claim victory in a closely contested encounter.
After the game, Coach Ogum confirmed that Amoah sustained a significant knee injury following a direct hit to the side of his knee. “He took a kick straight to the side of his knee, causing it to swell up and become extremely painful. He couldn’t walk and had to be assisted onto the bus. It looks serious, but I believe our medical staff can address it and get him fit in time,” Ogum stated.
Albert Amoah, a former Great Olympics standout, has been a key player for Kotoko this season, scoring five goals in eight games. His presence in the attack has been instrumental to the team’s early success, making his potential absence a challenging setback for the squad.
Following this defeat, Kotoko has dropped to third place in the league standings with 15 points. Looking ahead, the team will aim to rebound in their upcoming fixture against Bechem United as they seek to regain their momentum in the league. Amoah’s fitness will be crucial for the Porcupine Warriors, who hope to have their top scorer back on the field to bolster their attacking options.
