In a bid to quell tensions within the Black Stars, head coach Otto Addo has apologized to forward Jordan Ayew following recent discontent expressed by the player during the last international camp.
Reports reveal that Addo took the initiative to travel to Leicester last week for a face-to-face meeting with Ayew to address his frustrations over decisions made during recent outings.
Prominent sports journalist Dan Kwaku Yeboah has highlighted conflicting details surrounding a conversation between Ayew and former coach James Kwasi Appiah during Ghana’s match against Sudan in Accra. According to Yeboah, Ayew expressed his displeasure to Appiah about Mohammed Kudus being appointed captain on the eve of the game. He had been informed that he would lead the team in the absence of Thomas Partey, only to discover last minute that the armband was awarded to Kudus without prior notification.
Ayew’s dissatisfaction has reportedly stemmed from multiple factors encountered during their recent international matches, potentially contributing to a growing rift between him and the coaching staff. Addo’s visit highlights the significance of effective communication between players and coaches, particularly given the Black Stars’ challenges in their quest for qualification for upcoming tournaments.
“Jordan wasn’t happy with some things in camp during the last international [you know why], so Otto went there to speak and explain his decisions to him,” noted sports journalist Rahman Osman in a social media post. “I think they will be fine as Otto is under fire and needs Jordan badly this month.”
With the national team’s performance under scrutiny and crucial qualification for major tournaments at stake, it is vital for Addo to reconcile with key players like Ayew. Their collaboration will be essential as the Black Stars prepare for significant matches, and having Ayew on board could greatly enhance the team’s morale.
Looking ahead, Ghana will face Angola in Luanda before hosting Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium for their final group games of the qualifiers.
