Dreams FC coach Karim Zito feels like his achievements haven’t gotten the recognition they deserve from Ghanaians. He thinks this might be because people link him with the President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku. Okraku has been criticized for not managing football well in the country.
Zito led Dreams FC to a huge achievement: reaching the semi-finals in the CAF Confederation Cup on their first try. After a game, he expressed his frustration in a press conference. He said, “You know me, but you think differently because of Kurt. Let’s just leave it at that. You know where these boys started, Still Believe, so I won’t answer this question.”
Despite feeling overlooked, Zito hasn’t closed the door on coaching the Black Stars someday. He said, “I am a Ghanaian. If I get asked to work, I will do it. If not, it’s okay.”
Zito’s track record includes winning the 2021 Africa Youth Championship with Ghana’s U20 team, the Black Satellites. He also led Dreams FC to win the 2022/2023 Ghana FA Cup.
Currently, he’s competing in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup. Before coaching Dreams FC, he worked as an assistant coach for two of Ghana’s top clubs, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.
