Ghanaian attacker Kwame Opoku made a sensational debut in the Major League Soccer (MLS) as he scored a crucial goal for CF Montreal in their 2-2 draw against the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday.
Opoku, who started the game at Stade Saputo, played for 46 minutes and proved his worth with a well-taken goal that doubled his team’s lead.
The 22-year-old Ghanaian forward has been making a strong case for a regular starting position after recovering from an injury, and his performance against the Red Bulls was a testament to his skill and determination. Opoku’s goal came just 11 minutes after Sunusi Ibrahim opened the scoring for CF Montreal in the 11th minute.
However, the New York Red Bulls, currently third in the Eastern Conference standings, staged a remarkable comeback in the second half. Wikelman Carmona reduced the deficit in the 61st minute, and Julian Hall equalized late in the game to secure a thrilling 2-2 draw.
Opoku’s impressive display will give him a lot of confidence ahead of CF Montreal’s next match against the Colorado Rapids this Saturday at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
