Ghanaian forward Kwame Poku found the net for Peterborough United, but his goal proved only a consolation as they suffered a defeat against Reading FC in an English League One clash on Saturday evening.
Reading continued their impressive form, stretching their unbeaten league run to 11 matches with a dominant performance at the SCL Stadium.
The hosts took the lead in the seventh minute in an unfortunate manner for Peterborough, as captain Sam Hughes inadvertently turned Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan’s cross into his own net while trying to clear the danger.
Peterborough had a golden chance to level the score seven minutes later, but Abraham Odoh failed to capitalize, miscuing a promising pass from Malik Mothersille.
The first half remained competitive, but neither side managed to create clear-cut opportunities before the break.
Reading, however, took full control in the second half. Harvey Knibbs doubled their advantage in the 58th minute, calmly slotting home his 15th goal of the season.
Just five minutes later, Charlie Savage extended the lead with a composed finish from Jayden Wareham’s cross.
Poku responded for Peterborough, netting his 11th goal of the campaign after a defensive lapse from Reading, but his side struggled to mount a serious comeback.
Goalkeeper Jed Steer had to make crucial saves late on to prevent Andy Yiadom and Savage from adding to Reading’s tally, but the home side had already done enough to secure all three points.
