Sudan head coach Kwesi Appiah continued his strong start with the Falcons of Jediane, securing a vital 1-0 win against Niger in their opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The Group F encounter saw Sudan claim all three points, thanks to a decisive 51st-minute goal from Abobaker Mamoun Eisa.
With this victory, Sudan temporarily sits atop Group F, pending the outcome of the second group match between Ghana and Angola on Thursday. This positive result is a significant boost for Appiah’s squad, as they aim to qualify for the AFCON tournament in Morocco, having missed out on the previous edition in Ivory Coast.
Sudan’s journey in the 2021 AFCON ended at the group stage in Cameroon, but under Appiah’s guidance, the team is looking to make a strong comeback. The win against Niger marks an important step towards that goal, as Appiah continues to build momentum with his squad.
Appiah, a veteran tactician, will soon face a challenging test as he prepares to lead Sudan against his former side, the Black Stars of Ghana, in the upcoming qualifiers. Before that, Sudan will take on Angola in their second match of the campaign.
Since taking charge of the Sudan national team, Appiah has maintained an impressive unbeaten record in competitive matches. Over the last five games, including three World Cup qualifiers, he has secured four wins and one draw, highlighting his impact and significance to the team’s success.
