Ghanaian midfielder Lawrence Agyekum has completed a permanent move to Belgian Pro League side Cercle Brugge, signing a four-year contract after a successful loan stint from Austrian club RB Salzburg during the 2024/25 season.
The 21-year-old stood out throughout the campaign, making 44 appearances in all competitions while contributing two goals and two assists. His consistent performances convinced Cercle Brugge to activate the purchase clause in his loan agreement, securing his services until 2029.
In a club announcement, Cercle Brugge confirmed: “Cercle Brugge has exercised the purchase option in the loan deal of Lawrence Agyekum… He has signed a contract until 2029.”
Agyekum, who began his career at Ghana’s WAFA SC, expressed his excitement about continuing with the Belgian outfit. “It’s been a busy season already, but I’m grateful to God for where I am today. I’m happy to stay at Cercle and looking forward to what’s next,” he said.
Sporting Director Rembert Vromant also shared his thoughts on the player, describing him as “a versatile midfielder with strong technical skills,” adding that Agyekum complements the club’s playing philosophy and has great potential for further growth.
The Ghana international, who has one cap for the Black Stars, had previously attracted interest from French clubs Strasbourg and FC Nantes but chose to remain in Belgium, where he has found his footing. He is now expected to play a pivotal role in Cercle’s midfield in the coming seasons.
