Fredua Christopher, an official from Berekum Chelsea, has suggested that future Ghana Football Association (GFA) Congresses be held via Zoom if clubs are not allowed to participate in discussions.
This proposal follows concerns raised after the 30th Ordinary Congress on August 26, 2024, at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence in Prampram, which reportedly did not permit clubs to ask questions.
The 30th Ordinary Congress, a significant event for football stakeholders across Ghana, saw GFA President Kurt Okraku inaugurate new projects including a gym, futsal arena, and swimming pool at the Soccer Center of Excellence.
Christopher criticized the current administration’s approach, stating, “This current administration when they first came any Congress that we will go they write to us that any club that has a problem send through email as other matters. You know Ghana football the clubs for the fear of intimidation and witch-hunting they are not doing it,” he told Peace FM.
He compared this to the previous administration under Kwesi Nyantakyi, who allowed open discussions and encouraged feedback. Christopher remarked, “Unlike Kwesi Nyantakyi’s time at Congress he will tell you to raise up your hand any anything that you have you can say it. There you will see well-known football people like Ntow Fianko coming to express their views now if you go to Congress like we went this time other matters they didn’t let anybody ask a question.
He emphasized that if clubs travel from distant regions only to be unable to contribute, virtual meetings might be a more practical alternative.
“Why do you want people to risk their life from Bolga and Wa to come and not be able to say anything then let us stay home and do Zoom,”
