Eric Bailly’s bizarre penalty miss against Egypt dumped Ivory Coast out of the Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday night – and fans couldn’t get their head around the Manchester United defender’s run-up.
The Elephants failed to advance to the quarter-finals of the competition after being held to a 0-0 draw over 120 minutes by Mohamed Salah and Co, who then got the better of them in the resulting penalty shootout.
The 27-year-old, who stepped up third for Ivory Coast in the shootout, ran up to take the spot-kick in strange fashion; taking only one step before appearing to look away when striking the ball to Gabaski’s right.
Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah then stepped up to perfectly demonstrate to Bailly how it is done from twelve yards out as he sent Badra Ali the wrong direction to win it 5-4 for Egypt.
Egypt now face Morocco in the quarterfinal on January 30th.
