Local talent ready for world stage, says Port City coach

Abdallah Brimah has backed calls for increased inclusion of home-based players in the Black Stars, insisting they have the quality to compete at the 2026 FIFA World Cup if given the opportunity.

The Port City head coach stressed that although player selection depends largely on a coach’s tactical approach and philosophy, the Ghana Premier League is filled with talented individuals capable of performing at the highest level. He suggested that some locally based players could easily adapt to national team systems and earn call-ups when given the chance.

He further noted that many Ghanaian players currently featuring abroad were once handed similar opportunities to develop and prove themselves, arguing that local players deserve the same pathway. According to him, with the right structure and confidence from the technical team, home-based players can excel on the global stage.

The comments come amid ongoing national discussions about whether to introduce a quota system to guarantee spots for domestic league players in the Black Stars. While some believe such a policy could strengthen the local league, others maintain that team selection should remain strictly performance-driven.

Meanwhile, Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has assured that players from the domestic league will be given fair consideration, emphasizing that selection into the national team will ultimately be based on merit and performance.
