Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo has spoken about his pride in representing Ghana, describing the support and love he receives from Ghanaian fans as a “dream come true.”
The 26-year-old attacker, who was born in England to Ghanaian parents, had the option of representing the Three Lions but chose to play for the country of his heritage at senior international level.
Semenyo has since featured for the Black Stars at major tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup, although he is yet to fully replicate his outstanding club form on the international stage.
Speaking about the qualities he believes come from his Ghanaian roots, the Manchester City forward highlighted his physicality, pace and creativity as key parts of his playing style.
“Strength, for sure. Pace. Excitement is another thing,” Semenyo told CNN when discussing the influence of his heritage.
He added: “All the Ghanaian fans are so excited when we play. All the tricks, flicks and goals. That’s what I like to think my traits are. And love. Love is all I get from Ghana. My mom and dad grew up there, so it’s a dream come true to say that I represent the nation.”
Semenyo is now preparing for the new season with Manchester City and is expected to make his first competitive appearance of the campaign in the Community Shield clash against Arsenal on August 16.
