President John Dramani Mahama has called on the Black Stars to prioritize securing Ghana’s place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, emphasizing that the opportunity to represent the nation on such a grand stage is worth every sacrifice.
During a visit to the team at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday afternoon, Mahama encouraged the players to give their best and make Ghana proud. He reminded them that while playing for the national team may not be as financially rewarding as their club careers, the sense of national pride is invaluable.
“Playing for the national team is not as lucrative as your clubs, but still, that sense of pride and patriotism that your nation has gone to the World Cup is worth dying for,” he stated.
The President also highlighted the importance of discipline, teamwork, and hard work, stressing that these values are key to achieving success both in football and in life.
The Black Stars players, coaches, and officials expressed their gratitude for Mahama’s support and encouragement as they prepare for their crucial World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana will face Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, before traveling to Morocco to take on Madagascar on Monday, March 24, 2025, in their Matchday five and six fixtures.
Following their failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in 20 years, the Black Stars are determined to turn things around and secure a spot at the World Cup.
