Ghana international Majeed Ashimeru says he feels relieved after scoring his first-ever goal in European competitions on Thursday, April 13.
The Ghanaian midfielder netted the second goal of the UEFA Europa Conference League game between Anderlecht and AZ Alkmaar, with his side going on to register a first-leg advantage in the quarterfinal tie.
Ashimeru received a pass from Francis Amuzu on the edge of the penalty box and took a touch before curling the ball past the opponent’s goalkeeper to extend the lead after Michael Murillo’s opener.
The goal was the Ghanaian’s first in Europe and he was delighted to have finally found a breakthrough on that stage.
“It feels really great because I have been waiting for a long time for this moment and I think it was the right one to score my first in Europe,” he said on 3FM.
“When the ball was coming [after Francis Amuzu’s cross], I knew if I took it on the first time it might not go [as I want]. So I just took a touch and the touch was really good…”
Ashimeru has netted three goals for Anderlecht this season after becoming an instrumental figure in the team.
