Ghanaian midfielder Majeed Ashimeru marked his comeback from injury with a substitute appearance for Anderlecht in their Championship playoff victory over Royal Antwerp.
Ashimeru had been sidelined since January 2024 after sustaining an injury during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where he represented the Ghana national team.
The former WAFA midfielder suffered the injury during Ghana’s final group stage match against Mozambique and had been out of action since then.
However, Ashimeru made a significant return to the pitch as he came on as a substitute during injury time in Anderlecht’s recent win.
Killian Sardella’s goal in the 52nd minute secured a crucial victory for Anderlecht as they continue their pursuit of the Belgian Pro League title this season.
Ashimeru’s comeback provides a significant boost for both Anderlecht and the Ghana national team, with his dynamic midfield presence expected to strengthen Anderlecht’s title aspirations and bolster Ghana’s squad ahead of the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali in June.
