Majeed Ashimeru, the Anderlecht star, has been nominated for Europa League Goal of the Week for his powerful strike against AZ Alkmaar.
His competitors for the award are Terem Moffi’s spectacular bicycle kick against FC Basel, Jonathan Ikone’s solo strike for Fiorentina against Lech, and Hugo Cuyper’s strike for Gent against West Ham.
The 25-year-old Ghanaian skillfully controlled a cross from Francis Amuzu and smashed the ball into the net from the edge of the box to score his first goal in a European competition.
Anderlecht is now close to reaching the semi-finals after their 2-0 victory over AZ Alkmaar at the Lotto Park.
Ashimeru has already made 39 appearances across all competitions for Anderlecht this season and was part of Ghana’s team for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola last month.
