English-born Ghanaian midfielder Malachi Boateng has expressed his joy after making his debut for Plymouth Argyle in their stunning FA Cup victory over Liverpool.
Boateng, currently on loan from Hearts of Midlothian, came on as a substitute for Adam Randell with 18 minutes left, helping the English Championship’s bottom team secure a memorable win against the Premier League leaders.
“All glory to God! Grateful for my debut at Home Park and what a win to go with it. Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome,” Boateng wrote on Instagram following the match.
The former Crystal Palace academy player was instrumental in the closing moments, helping to prevent Liverpool from gaining control in the final third of the pitch.
The game came alive eight minutes into the second half when Harvey Elliott’s handball resulted in a penalty, which Ryan Hardie confidently converted. Hardie almost added a second, but Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher made an impressive save to push the shot onto the post.
Despite Liverpool’s late efforts to find an equalizer, Plymouth goalkeeper Conor Hazard made crucial saves to deny Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez, securing a historic victory for Miron Muslic’s side.
