Head of Football Operations at Reading FC Mark Bowen, is pleased with the contract extension of Ghanaian defender Kelvin Abrefa.
Kelvin returned to Bearwood for pre-season training on Wednesday 26th June, 2024 and has signed on the dotted line for a new deal which will see him remain a Royal until the summer of 2026.
Abrefa first joined in 2017 when he signed for our under-12s, and will stretch his association with the club to nine years with his new deal.
He became the club’s 74th Academy Graduate when he made his First Team debut in a Championship match against Coventry City at the Select Car Leasing Stadium in February 2022.
“We’re delighted to secure Kelvin to a new two-year contract. There was, understandably, plenty of external interest in him so we’re very happy that Kelvin’s chosen to continue his development as a Reading Player.” Mark Bowen said.
He then made his FA Cup debut in some style in January 2023, starting the Third Round tie against Watford and scoring a spectacular opening goal.
2023-24 saw Kelvin juggle regular U21 football along with important contributions to our first team, playing in the Carabao Cup and our historic 9-0 win over Exeter in September – as well as stepping up to start in a vital period of our league run-in.
