Hearts of Oak forward Mawuli Wayo has expressed his regret to the club’s supporters following their elimination from the Ghana FA Cup. The Phobians suffered a heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat against Division One League side Golden Kick FC on Sunday.

The match, held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, ended in a goalless draw after regulation time, forcing a penalty shootout. Although Golden Kick missed their first attempt, they held their nerve to claim a 4-3 victory, while Hearts of Oak failed to convert two crucial spot-kicks.

The result saw Golden Kick progress to the quarter-finals, delivering one of the biggest upsets of the competition. In response to the disappointment, Wayo took to social media to apologize to the fans, acknowledging their frustration over the team’s performance.

“I want to sincerely apologize for our exit from the MTN FA Cup. Losing on penalties is always tough, and I know we fell short of your expectations. Your unwavering support means everything to us, and we share your disappointment. We fought hard, but it wasn’t our day. Thank you for always standing by us. We’ll come back stronger! Much love and respect,” he wrote.
