As it implements its Women’s Football Strategy, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appointed Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo as the Head Coach of the female U23 national team. This decision highlights the GFA’s dedication to nurturing talent and fostering opportunities for advancement within Ghanaian Women’s Football.

Tagoe-Quarcoo brings great knowhow to her new role, having previously led the Black Queens to victory in the WAFU Zone B Women’s championship in 2018. Her coaching career is complemented by her extensive playing background and her possession of a CAF License A Coaching certificate.

Furthermore, Tagoe-Quarcoo’s commitment to ongoing learning and professional development was evident in her participation in the GFA’s capacity-building initiative in the Netherlands. This dedication underscores her pursuit of excellence and her desire to remain informed about the latest coaching methodologies.

Priscilla Dicxon, Head Coach of Faith Ladies FC and holder of a CAF Licence C Coaching certificate, will assist Tagoe-Quarcoo in her coaching duties. Dicxon’s expertise will complement Tagoe-Quarcoo’s leadership, creating a well-rounded coaching team capable of guiding the female U23 national team to success.

The establishment of the female U23 national team is a key plank in the  GFA’s Women’s Football Strategy and is configured to provide a pathway for young female players aspiring to compete at the highest levels of international football. Under Tagoe-Quarcoo’s guidance, the U23 team will serve as a vital stepping stone for players looking to progress to the senior national team, the Black Queens.

As Ghana continues its pursuit of excellence in women’s football, through the Women’s Football Strategy, Tagoe-Quarcoo’s appointment signals a progressive phase in the country’s footballing journey. With a focus on talent development and progression, the GFA is laying the foundation for sustained success on the global stage.

In acknowledging Tagoe-Quarcoo and Dicxon’s appointments, the Ghana Football Association reaffirms its commitment to promoting excellence and opportunity within women’s football. With their leadership, the female U23 national team embarks on a journey of growth, development, and success, inspiring the next generation of Ghanaian footballers and further enabling the achievement of the goals of the GFA’s Women’s Football Strategy.
