Michael Amer, the 19-year-old son of Ghanaian businessman Ibrahim Mahama, has secured his first professional contract in Europe after completing a two-year move to French Ligue 2 club USL Dunkerque.
The attacking midfielder joins from Nice Ibrahim SC, a Ghana-based club owned by his father, where he honed his skills before breaking into the national youth setup. Amer recently featured for Ghana’s U-20 side at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, further boosting his profile ahead of the European switch.
His transfer to Dunkerque represents a major milestone in his budding career and underlines the increasing opportunities for young Ghanaian talents to transition into the European game. The French league system has long been a gateway for African players, and Amer now looks set to follow that well-trodden path.

Dunkerque, currently competing in France’s second tier, offers the teenager a valuable platform to accelerate his development in a competitive environment. The club, which has a history of investing in African prospects, is partly owned by former Senegal striker Demba Ba.
For Amer, the move marks not only a personal breakthrough but also a continuation of a family passion for football — from learning the game at his father’s club to stepping onto the European stage with ambitions of making his mark.
