While Semenyo appears destined for Manchester City, debate continues over whether he would have suited Liverpool.
Former Reds defender Stephen Warnock expressed doubts about the winger’s ability to handle the pressure at a top club like Liverpool, pointing to Milos Kerkez’s difficult adaptation to Anfield as a cautionary example.
“There’s a difference between playing for Bournemouth and playing for Liverpool,” Warnock said. “Semenyo is a brilliant player, but we don’t know if he could provide goals and assists consistently under that pressure.”
However, Jermaine Jenas and some Liverpool fans argue the opposite. Jenas believes Semenyo could have been perfect for Liverpool, especially as the club looks to address the departure of Luis Diaz and add more unpredictability to their attack. Cody Gakpo, while talented, can sometimes be predictable, and Semenyo’s dynamic style could have offered a fresh edge down the left.
The debate highlights the fine line clubs must tread when signing high-profile players, balancing talent with the ability to adapt to a new environment and expectations.
