Mohammed Fuseini has earned a late call-up to the Ghana national team ahead of a busy international window that will see the Black Stars face Ivory Coast and Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, before taking on Morocco in an international friendly.
The Derby County forward has been drafted into Carlos Queiroz’s squad following the withdrawal of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mohammed Kudus and uncertainty surrounding the availability of Prince Adu Kwabena.
Kudus has opted out of the upcoming international window as he continues his recovery after recently returning to competitive football following a lengthy seven-month injury lay-off. The midfielder is understood to be focused on regaining full fitness before resuming his Black Stars duties.
Adu Kwabena, meanwhile, remains a doubt after sustaining a head injury during Viktoria Plzen’s clash with Slavia Prague over the weekend. The forward was stretchered off and is expected to undergo further medical assessment before a decision is made on whether he can join the national team.
With Ghana facing potential attacking absences, Fuseini’s return provides another option for Queiroz as the Black Stars prepare for a demanding schedule.
The 24-year-old returns to the national team setup more than a year after making his Ghana debut at the 2025 Unity Cup in London. Fuseini came off the bench against Nigeria before earning his first start against Trinidad and Tobago. He marked that opportunity in impressive fashion, scoring in Ghana’s 4-0 victory in the third-place playoff.
Despite making an immediate impression during the tournament, Fuseini had not received another senior call-up until now.

His return comes at an encouraging moment in his club career. Fuseini joined Derby County on loan for the 2026/27 season from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise, seeking regular football in England.
He opened his Derby account at the weekend in dramatic fashion, coming off the bench against Burnley at Turf Moor and scoring a stoppage-time equaliser to secure a 1-1 draw for John Eustace’s side. The goal was his first since arriving at the Championship club and provided a timely boost ahead of his return to international football.
Fuseini is expected to join the Black Stars camp this week as Ghana begin their AFCON qualifying campaign away against Ivory Coast in Bouaké on September 24.
